    JAYALGER’S WEEKLY BEAR TRAP

“I learn something new about the game almost every time I step on the course.” - Ben Hogan

PREVIEW AND PICKS FOR THE 3M OPEN 2019 The Course - TPC Twin Cities

We stay in the midwest and move to Blaine, MN for another new PGA Tour stop at TPC Twin Cities. Twin Cities has been the host of the 3M Championship on the Champions Tour since 2001. However, there contract had ended with the new tournament. TC is a links-sytle course designed by Arnold Palmer with Tom Lehman in 2000. TC had played as a par-72 measuring 7114 yards for the 3M Championship but for the PGA Tour it will play as a par-71 measuring 7468 yards.

    Hole breakdown is as follows:
    • No data available

    Course Data
    • No data available

    Course Stats
    • Par 71
    • 7,468 yards
    • Architect(s) - Arnold Palmer (2000) with Tom Lehman as consultant
    • Turf
      • Greens - Bent
        • 5500 sq.ft.
        • Early report 12+ on Stimpmeter
      • Tees/Fairways - Bent
      • Rough - Bluegrass./Fescue
    • Sand bunkers -74
    • Water - 27

    Brief Tournament Information
    • Full field event with 156 golfers
      • Field Strength - 255 (below average)
      • Only five of the top 25 OWGR in the field. Notables in the field (OWGR) - Brooks Koepka (1), Bryson DeChambeau (8), Tony Finau (17), Jason Day (18), Patrick Reed (25)
    • Standard cut of 70 plus ties

    The Stats to Consider
    • There is no course data, however, there is some data from the Champions Tour even though the setup will be very different.
    • Find golfers who excel on Bent.
    • Bombers may have some advantage as this is a longer course.
    • Last year’s top finishers of the 3M Championship were all top 10 in GIR for the tournament.
    • Twin Cities has had some of the highest number of birdies each year during the 3M Championship. The average winning score the past five years has been -20. Golfers will need to score a lot of birdies.
    • Fairways are pretty large as well as the greens. Accuracy will not be as important this week but getting as close to the pin as possible will be key. So, approach will be important and 2-putt avoidance and good lag putting skills will be helpful.
